Half Double Crochet Washcloth Pattern

The best way to learn how to crochet well is to PRACTICE.
This is the assignment I gave my beginning crochet class - to make a washcloth using half double crochet. It accomplishes 2 things - it gets them to practice their hdcs, and it gives you a useful washcloth when you are done.

Instructions:
SUPPLIES
Yarn: 100% Cotton, worsted weight (4), 1.4 oz.
I used FLIKKA by Lion Brand, color Confetti
Hook: US H/5.00mm
I used a Susan Bates hook
Yarn Needle
Scissors
STITCH GUIDE
Ch – chain
Ea – each
Hdc – half double crochet
Sc – single crochet
Sl st – slip stitch
PATTERN:
Chain 26
Row 1: Hdc in second st from hook, hdc to end. Turn. (25 st)
Row 2-23 (or until square): Ch 1, Hdc in each st. Turn. (25)
Border: Ch 1, sc in each st across to last st. At last st sc, ch 1, turn work on it’s side and sc in the same st. Continue down the side of the cloth placing sc evenly. At last bottom st, sc, ch1, turn work (you are now on the bottom of the cloth), and sc in the same st. Sc in ea st along the bottom to the last st. At last st sc, ch1, turn work and sc in same st. Now sc evenly along the last side. On last st sc, ch1 and sl st to the first st on the top.
Cut yarn, leaving 6 inch tail. Weave in ends.
